Aimsweb Math Data

Prologue

The Stevensville School District assesses students in the area of math using the Pearson’s AIMSweb data assessments MCAP (Math Concepts and Applications) and MCOMP (Math Computation) for grades 1-8.  This benchmark testing assesses students’ ability to problem-solve as well as compute problems.  The assessments are aligned with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards.

Students are assessed three times per year (fall, winter, and spring) to measure mathematics growth. Benchmark testing is a systematic process of screening all students on essential math skills.  Benchmark data, in grades 4-8 is used to place students into instructional groups, provide insight into student performance by strand, and help guide effective instruction.

The following graphs are a representation of the district’s grade level mean scores in comparison to the national norm scores.  Winter testing scores are formative assessments to monitor progress.  Student testing is scored on a scaled continuum that spans grades two through eighth and ranges from 0-35 on the Math Concepts and Applications (MCAP). Math Computation (MCOMP) is scored on a scaled continuum that spans grades first through eighth and ranges from 0-70.

District Average Compared to National Norms

Narrative of the District Average and National Norms First Grade Data

First grade is assessed in Math Computation (MCOMP) only. In general, the Stevensville first grade has shown growth in the area of math computation from fall to spring. The graph indicates that Stevensville first grade students begin the year at or above the national norm.  There is expected growth from the fall to the spring which matches or exceeds national growth norms.

Narrative of the District Average and National Norms Second Grade Data

Second grade is assessed in Math Concepts and Applications (MCAP) and Math Computation (MCOMP). During the second grade year Math Concepts and Applications (MCAP) is added to the math assessment. The MCAP graph indicates that Stevensville second grade students begin the year at or just below the national norm. The MCOMP graph indicates that the second grade students begin the year at or above the national norm. As indicated by the graphs, there is expected growth from the fall to the spring which exceeds national growth norms.

Narrative of the District Average and National Norms Third Grade Data

Third grade is assessed in Math Concepts and Applications (MCAP) and Math Computation (MCOMP). The MCAP graph indicates that Stevensville third grade students begin the year at or just below the national norm. The MCOMP graph indicates that the third grade students begin the year at or above the national norm. As indicated by the graphs, there is expected growth from the fall to the spring which matches or exceeds national growth norms.
