Stevensville Primary News (November 2017)

Attendance is Important

Daily attendance is crucial to your child’s academic success. Chronic absenteeism, 15 or more days in one year, can have a negative effect on a child’s ability to keep up in class. Missing multiple days in a school year sets students behind academically, which can lead to student frustration. Research shows that chronic absenteeism can lead to early drop outs from High School. Students at all grade levels, even elementary, feel the pressures of missing daily academic instruction. All levels of school are critical building blocks for the following school years. When students do not have a strong grasp on reading they fall behind. Although Stevensville offers a variety of interventions for struggling readers, the most important intervention is strong attendance. The same holds true for all basic concepts in math. Students become frustrated with math when they don’t have the opportunity to master the basic skills or the building blocks for more complicated math at the older grade levels. Please send your children to school on time each day, unless they are truly ill or have fevers. Missing instruction only jeopardizes students’ ability to grow academically and stay on track with their same-aged peers. Research shows that low attendance makes students fall behind on their work, reduces their motivation, effects their ability to have or keep friendships, lowers self-confidence, reduces students’ ability to attend or perform in extra-curricular activities, and more!

Hawaiian Day November 9th

Have your child dress up in Hawaiian attire for the day (while still remaining appropriate for the cold conditions). The K-3 will enjoy this day together by watching a movie and having popcorn in the gym! Parent volunteers are encouraged to attend from 1:15-3:30 in the elementary gym.

Calling for Bus Changes

For safety reasons, we are asking that parents do not call for bus changes after 2:45 pm on regular days and 1:45 pm on early out days. We appreciate your cooperation with this!

Drop Off/Pick Up

When dropping your children off in the loop, please remain in your car. Move forward once your child has left your vehicle. For everyone’s safety, please follow these steps to keep traffic from backing up on Park Ave.

Also, the area on Phillips St. just in front of the playground, before the entry gate and near the ball shed, is not a drop off/pick up zone. There are many children and parents walking in this area in the mornings and is an unsafe drop off/pick up zone. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!
